Vane

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

Vane

Not mine, but I saw this vane posted for sale on the Market Place. What size of windmill do you think this vane went to? Presumably a USWE model B.

Also looks like a Samson. Except my 8 ft only has 3 cross pieces.

The “US model” faded stencil is what is making me think it is USWE over Samson. I suspect this one is for a 12’ or possibly a 14’ model.

You're right Wayne that vane is very similar to a Samson.

I dug out my litterateur so I could compare the two tailvanes side by side. They are very similar but the rear corners on the Samson are a little more rounded.what i didn't know was the tailbone on the U.S.W.E has a oil cup on the top just like the Samson.

Thank you.

It is for sale on Marketplace…not mine, just happen to see it. It would have to belong to a 12’ or so windmill due to its size.

I had US Wind Engine vane 8 FT. One side had been painted. I was able to strip off the paint and under it was Kruger Manufacturing San Ant0nio. I knew they sold gas engines not also windmills. I sold it to a couple at Poteet.

I ended up purchasing this vane. It has US Model B on one side and Krueger Machinery CO, San Antonio, Texas on the reverse. I read on here that Krueger Machinery was found by Max Krueger in 1899, ultimately turning into San Antonio Machine & Supply Company (SAMCO). SAMCO sold a lot of windmills.

It could easily fit a USWE 12’ head. Three bullet holes…
