This windmill came from my Grandad's farm just east of San Angelo in a German community called Wall. I also grew up about 20 miles west of San Angelo.

If you have time visit Fort Chadbourn, it's not too far from San Angelo. Very nice museum and grounds

Not sure what I am doing wrong. There is a lot of space between the ear and A551. Unfortunately it has been too long ago since I took it apart. I could put a spacer in.
I turned it over but that doesn,t seem right either

if you poured a new saddle bearing, it could be higher than the old. I just explained to someone about that. Oh, IOf your saddle bearing is too high your pitman will be too, and the roller will hit the top of the hoop. Make sure your shaft is all the way down in the saddle. If it is, check the pitman arms and roller. If they are ok, let me know.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.

The wheel is still free at the top of the stroke. I can spin it with my hand so is seems ok.

Thanks for confirming Dan. I was thinking that but I am thinking that Windy is right the Babbitt is higher than the old one and apparently it does not take much.

 Tom , who poured that bearing ??
If you remove the large gears you can scrape the bearing to lower the assembly so the clamp bolt will be tight
Or
As windy says , shim up the bolt let the big gears to spin :!: freely
