Aermotor windmill platform wood

Post by BreakingWindGuy »

Looking to restore an Aermotor windmill (702) platform to original appearance, but do not want to go with metal, for appearances. I cannot find 1x10 or 12 green treat or even oak in one inch size. It's all crappy lumberyard 3/4 knotty looking stuff, even in cedar or redwood. What do you all use? Thinking about using treated plywood. Has anyone had any experience with it? What do you use, and don't say metal.....I will be using the original bolts for the Aermotor tower, and am looking for something that is strong enough and will hold up. Going two inch is too thick for the bolts and would take a lot of planing down to get the thickness i want. Thanks for any suggestions.

Justin's deal sounds pretty good, but if you don't go with it i use five quarter by six treated decking boards !!

On my Baker Monitor platform, I used 2x12 treated. I lap jointed the corners and used a roundover router bit on all edges. It's nice and strong and will hopefully last for years. I personally would avoid the treated plywood. IMO, it doesn't look as nice and I'd be concerned that the veneers would separate over time. Sounds like Justin has a good deal if you can make that connection.

Justin’s offer sounds solid . I couldn’t purchase those materials at that price, and pre fitted
My opinion and I’m sticking with it

Decking material is treated 5/4 . I buy that for treated wood purpose that is better than regular 1 X whatever.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
