Pump rods

I am going to install new wood pump rods, question is that I will have to make the rods in several pieces due to the length I will need to reach the pump. When splicing together can this be ridged? my dad say's he thought that there was a swivel between each one. Any information on what to do with this?

Rigid splices are fine. You only need one 'swivel' point, and that is already provided at the connection to the mill's pump rod.

Yep! Paul is right. The pump POLE is usually 2X2 weatherproof wood. Actual size is like 1 1/2 X 1 5/8 or so. I have used pine, and oil soaked it. Also, oak. Treated yellow pine is fine ( haha pine is fine) But let it dry good first. Usually sizes like that, in TYP makes good bow-and-arrow sets when it's dry. Oil soak any type, for added weather protection. My opinion anyway.
