I pressed out this shaft from the hub this morning. Wow, that thing was tight! I even heated it up a little. I was able to drill and tap the key (10-24) and used a small slide hammer and it came right out. I then dressed the end of the shaft so it would pass through. Put it on the press and when it popped, it moved about an inch. It was downhill from there. See pic.

Has anyone ever seen this? There was a slot milled in the hub. It was that way when l bought it. See pic.

Yep i have,we had trouble doing my brother's steel star also and his hub has that same oblong hole. Don't know what the purpose is except to let the rain in to rust it up.

The only thing I can think of is that slot to possibly to drive the key out. You can get a long punch through the hub and into the slot. Will post pic shortly.

Does anyone know why the keyway in the shaft would run the full length of the hub? While the key is only 1 1/4" long. See pic.
