Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

Interesting RP. Not many -100s were made.

Thanks Paul love those photos. I never had seen that they had what is called a Smock Mill in the 3rd photo to the left. The one with the big 4 big sails. I think about the the erecting and taking down, what a monster task that must have been.

Wayne those smock millls were quite common on the Dutch windmills. To furl them you simply rolled the smock up and the wind just blew through the skeleton wood frame. Pretty ingenious !!

The pictures are all great , but I don't believe that the original posted picture is from the 1893 Exposition . It seems to be a smaller and maybe a little later show , like maybe even a state fair , but still great machinery (and a picture I'd never seen). When I look at those pictures , I'd like to be able to say I was born 60-70 years to late , but then I think about running water , central heat and air conditioning ...... Oh and then there's seeing the ankles or maybe even calves of the opposite gender ....

Researched. You're correct. The first pic in this thread appears to be Windmill Hill, World's Fair, St. Louis, Missouri - 1904

Remember you never missed what you never had. I didn't live in a house with running water until 5th grade> First air conditioner was a swamp cooler maybe came in the 7 or 8th. The only thing I really wanted was a pair of Levis. I had the JC Penny Penncraft jeans. They didn't look as cool as Levis.

I'm guessing thats why most of us here have collections . We're having our toys , and our conveniences too ....... Because we can !

Ps:what makes looking back difficult for me , is that I can't un-know how comfortable we are
