Race set for Dempster 8’ 12A model

Post by jctgater@aol.com »

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and in the process of rebuilding my second Dempster. All I need to wrap up my mill is the find a race set (parts 1155 and 1156) to replace my original set which has a damaged unusable lower race. Any leads would be appreciated. Will pay what you ask.

Regards,

Check all sources from the car parts places, internet, bearing companies, etc. Timken was the original supplier for Dempster, other companies should make them also. I would shoot for Timken and see what happens.

You can sometimes find these on ebay with the 3/4" balls included

Oh my. I'm sorry. I thought you were talking about shaft bearings. You mean the turntables. ( upper and lower).
I can't believe it. This is the first mistake I've ever made in my life. Lol

Don't fell to bad Windy I didn't catch what he was looking for either. I had been told they were called the upper and lower castings. I didn't pay attention to the part num. A word of caution that set for an 8 ft mill doesn't use 3/4 balls they are 5/8.

True, but it's a 12A which is a whole different animal. They are really 3/4.

The word race steered me in a different direction. I was thinking roller bearing race. I don't remember part numbers, so that didn't ring a bell either.

Upper and lower turntable castings have larger holes too. Because of the larger diameter neckpipe.

Caution! A Challenge 27 is very similar but will not fit Dempster.Challenge has a lock ring to hold two halves of bearing races together.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You have to be careful trying to match 1155 and 1156 parts. Trying to match either one with a substitute race may not be the same. Tolerances varied in production. Fill the bearing up with balls and rotate and check for no side play and the bearing turns smooth.
