I am not having any luck finding a brake drum that will fit this axle that is part of an old maybe one of a kind power mill. The dimensions are as follows:
Total length 6 and 1/4 inches
Tapered length 4 and 3/4 inches
Taper thickness is 1.67 inches down to 1.25 inches
Threaded length is 1 and 1/2 inches x 1 inch thick
A beveled keyway .340 x .60 inches by .250 inches
deep runs the full 4 and 3/4 inches of the taper
The drum should be 12 inches id
This mill had sat in the elements for a lot of years but shows
no real effects from the weather. Birds have made good use
for perching as seen on the photo.
With out the drum It will be near impossible to get the mill restored
Any input will be appreciated,
Thanks, Joe

Re: power mill
Joe is there a parts number on the face of the bearing If so go to your local Auto parts store and maybe they can help and tell you what hub it fit
Re: power mill
Is that a actual car or truck rear end? If so post some more pics of the housing area. I know an automotive guy who will be able to identify it. Bill

Re: power mill
There are no numbers anywhere. Seems like his came off a very early
truck or some thing else as the measurement from the outside tip
of the axle to the center of the differential is only 30 inches.
Short by my 2002 F150.
Some photos from today and earlier in the spring.

Joe some of the older Chevy pickups had enclosed drive shafts that were solid 1.25 shafts

Re: power mill
Thanks Dan,
Too bad the owners of this mill levelled the farm site where the mill stood.
I was planning to go there with a metal detector to see whether there was
a possible chance the drum was buried under years of dead grass and was
missed by the young couple who bought it before I traded my Fairbanks Morse WG
for it

Re: power mill
Yes Dan that looks like the right way to get power to the axle. The big problem
is getting a hub with a keyway instead of a spline. I looked up
hubs and they are all splined. Will keep looking, Going stop at our local industrial
supply outlet with a photo and measurements. They have books and books to reference
available parts on almost every thing. May get lucky. Have until next spring
to come up with something.

Re: power mill
Thanks for that Bill.I do not know if there would be a scrap yard any where here
in Alberta that would harbour a vehicle that old. Most scrap dealers would not go back further than the
60 to 70`s. However now we have something to go on.Probably one of these oldies could be sitting
in some old farm hedgerow. I went to a couple of aucions this summer that had old vehicles but
nothing that old.
