Idea steel part ?

I found this part under the Idea Steel I am clearing to gain access to remove the motor .
It was under the wooden tower .
Part # 986
7" diameter
4" tall
the 3 legs have a slight taper
heavy cast , just like all machines of that past era .

I think that's part of the tower cap?

That would be my thought also. For a 3 leg wood tower?

Wayne , i knew you would have the answer as I see your name in the what is it section of "Farm Collector " magazine frequently
Hopefully next week the motor will be lifted off and i will have a better look at the mounting .

Tower top for a 3 legged tower, yes. Wooden tower, probably not. My opinion.

I think your right windy , this wooden tower was cobbled together for display 25 years ago .
If I had extra short three legged tower that would be the replacement .
It would last longer and l;ook better .
BUT , i dont think I will paint it like an easter egg .

The tower top that I have, have an inner spacer for the legs, and bolt holes that go staight down, into the ends of the wood. Yours has an outer spacer and no top holes for wood legs.

Can't wait to get it down and see what kind of cobblled mess is up there holding the motor in the air .
I am sure your right , understand the reasoning .
I'll get a photo before the motor comes off .

Mike, Farm Collector is my favorite mag. I bought a unique speed wrench once. Had no idea what is was used for. A couple of months later, there it was in in the What is it section of Farm Collector. I have a lots of opinions, but unlike Windy's, which are something you can put in the bank, most of mine aren't worth the paper you could write them on.
