Monitor L crank plate
How does one go about removing the crank plate on a Monitor L ?
Re: Monitor L crank plate
Paul Cowley posted this on the old site.
I have not tried this method.
Terry
Crank Plate removal for Football Monitor---------- Grind shaft and plate smooth to make sure the shaft if not peened. Make sure key comes out with plate by welding to plate or drill shallow hole in plate and peen key into hole. The taper is in the plate keyway. Heat the plate (try not to heat the shaft). Attach a good 2 leg pully puller and tighten to just short of breaking the plate. ( I would attach a picture of the pulley puller I built for that , but it is across the street and I have no way of getting over there. Basically it had ears on the arms long enough to reach the large part of the plate hub.) Walk off and leave it and do something else. By the time it cools if it has not come off, repeat the process of heat. When it pops like you have been shot in the rear it will come off. Also, you might try heat and drop water on the shaft drop at a time and be ready for a heart attack when it pops.

Re: Monitor L crank plate
Thanks Terry. Looks easier said than done. Dose not not look like an easy job. Looks like it would be easier to remove
the crank and shaft together. I picked up a crank plate from Dan at the fair. The old crank plate broke and no sign of
the key.
