I'm new to windmills, but am trying to set up and old 8' Woodmanse. The tower is laying on the ground, the head and fan are off and apart, do I build out the wheel-spokes/vanes while the head and stem are off the tower, or put the head/stem onto the tower, then add the wheel-spokes and
vanes? Also, how do you keep the bearing together while putting the stem onto the tower top? Any help suggestions is really appreciated.

Re: Woodmanse rebuild
Welcome to the forum.
You might post some photos to help with particulars, like the model of Woodmanse and tower height. I’m not as familiar with Woodmanse windmills as others on here, so they may be able to provide better specifics.
I’ve always found it easier and safer to assemble on the ground, but that also depends on how you plan to erect the tower and gearbox. It is also easier to repair and / or replace the gearbox bearings, etc. while it is down.

I agree with CTX miller . when a tool slips out of my hand ,,,,, not so far to pick it up again .
Re: Woodmanse rebuild
For me standing on a platform putting together a windmill fan is not something I'd do. Doing from a bucket lift, I've done. Yeah pictures would be good.
