Pics are hard to tell but looks like the mast pipe is for an open gear.

More than likely had either a model 99 or a R.A. mill nested on top of her. Nice!!!

The "Trussed" tower was patented June 2, 1908. Patent #889,395.

Makes you wonder why they waited 4 years to patent it ? Was it someone else idea or was another co trying to steal it.

I don't know for sure but the patent shows the application was filed July 13, 1905. The patent office must have been extremely busy?

This particular tower is not an open gear tower. It had a very early 602 on it. When I get time I’ll have to clean up main shaft and see if I can find the date on it. Guessing 1916/1917. It’s a flat bottom gearbox with plug in hub that takes spanner wrench. The mast pipe froze up and broke off right at the bottom of the gearbox so it looks like the early mast pipe but it’s not. A fair amount of these towers and 602 heads here.
