Eclipse in South Texas
Eclipse in South Texas
This says Plow Camp Bishops ,Texas. Don't find a Bishops but do find a Bishop down in South, Texas in King Ranch Country. To have this big of an operation it has to be somebody with deep pockets who owns 3 big steamers and accessories. That looks like a an Eclipse to be.

The guy i bought my Aermoter gear boxes from recently is a farmer from New Jersey and was telling me he has five steam tractors in his collection one is a Titan made by IHC. And a Adams Husker he found in a barn and believes it's very rare. Thanks for the pics Wayne!!!
Re: Eclipse in South Texas
The Titan isn't a steam engine. It was one of IHC's early 2 cylinder gas/kerosene tractors. IHC never made a steam engine.

If I was guessing , I'd say the first in line was filling his/her water tanks , and the others are waiting their turn .....
Re: Eclipse in South Texas
Could Be! A guy on the site where I saw it said they were oil burners. That's what the tank behind the smoke stack is. An oil tank. I've looked at a lot of steam engines and don't remember seeing another with a tank in that position before.

Quite possible , probably as easy to get in Texas as coal or wood . Fresh water , while just as necessary for steamers , wouldn't be easy either if it weren't for that windmill !

Hey Tom I see you like steam engines maybe you can identify what this Clam Shell governor came off. So far no one seems to know it stands 18 inches tall. Much appreciated Dan!!

Re: Eclipse in South Texas
Looks like the top of an "Erie" clamshell governor , would have sat on a (missing) valve that throttled the steam into a steam engine . Belt would have gone from the crankshaft , up to a (missing) pulley on the bevel gear shaft . Governors for steam engines were kind of like aftermarket parts usually not made by the engine builder , but supplied by the engine builder with the engine . All that to say that of the thousands of builders back in the day , hard to say which ones supplied Erie governors with their engines . The missing valve would likely have been NPT size and it could have been made to control about any engine with that size steam inlet .... There is an "American Blower Company" engine made in Detroit , at the Florida state fair with an Erie clamshell governor , you should be able to find pictures or video on line.
