Sail section storage

Generally speaking, this area is for general discussion about windmills, in most cases.

Sail section storage

Post by PaulV »

How does everyone store their sails? I store my windmill sails indoors, typically nesting them together and leaning against a wall or something else. I'm running out of space at ground level. Has anyone come up with any clever methods for hanging sections, or racks to hold them?

Paul
12' and bigger mills can be slid on to the forks of a forklift on each side of the middle blade. Then slid on to a wall rack.

I store my canoe on the ceiling of the shop. It has a winch on the side wall, a sheave at the top of the side wall, then a ring that has 2 ropes attached for each end of the canoe dropped off of 2 more sheaves attached to the ceiling. I can lower right on to the roof of the pickup and pick it right off. A separate safety rope to hold in place makes sense.

If you can find some old fruit bins, they work very well for storage of wheel sections.
They are easy to move with a forklift and protect the blades while traveling down the road.

I think you can only procure fruit bins in "the land of fruits and nuts".

I have been using chemical totes. Cheap if not free and if you cut them in half you get two for one, just need a second pallet.[
