If you recall, I posted this on general discussion. Well I managed to get it apart
Without breaking anything. Now I will prep the gearbox for prime and paint.
In the second photo, this was in the bottom, to take up slack in the base pipe.
Has anyone seen this before? Just wondering if it was factory or not.
Will keep you all updated on the progress. See attachments.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
I was going to prep the gearbox and decided to wait.
Look in the photo and you can see the tail pin holes need
A little repair. I will get this to my welder on Monday.
Will update when done.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Hey Kenneth, how's your snout bearing? I think that's the only one in the mill. The others are cast on steel, with steel taking the wear. The snout is High-content graphite in the cast, for a 'bearing' of sorts. I think this is all true. I have seen shims before, I would guess not factory.
Call Dan Benjamin for parts. P M me for the phone number. IF YOU TALK TO HIM, AND HE HELPS YOU, THEN BUY FROM HIM. IT CREATES GOOD KARMA.
Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Hey Windy, I have a reworked snout bearing that I had Pat Hunt make for it.
This gearbox is to replace one that I have that is broken. Once I have the gearbox
Repainted, I will use the internals from the broken gearbox to reassemble it.
The internals from the bad gearbox are all blasted and ready to go.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Sounds good. Those are very attractive mills when done up like new.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Kenneth,
I think those are great looking windmills.
You are doing a great job with the rebuilding.
Just think, you will not need to overhaul it again for 50-75 years.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
That's why we wanted one because of the color on the tips of the blades.
Very attractive mill for sure.
Thanks Kevin.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Hi Kenneth,
Looks good. I just took the same one apart over the weekend. Mine is missing the internal gears and such for pumping. Someone had taken it all out and added a sprocket to run an alternator for electricity. Do you have any info on the snout bearing you sourced for it? Mine is worn out bad. I was thinking about just mounting up some pillow block bearings inside and just making it a decorative mill. Do you happen to have extra internal parts from you donor mill? If I could come across some it may change the direction I go and I could do a full restoration.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Hi sshosier. I am not sure if the model 8 and the model 28 will interchange.
I have only owned the model 8. Maybe someone else might know if they will
Interchange. I want to get mine complete before I decide what I will do with
The extra parts.

Re: Heller Aller Mod 8
Not sure what the 28 is at the moment. I have 6's, 6.5's, 7's and 8's. I think they made a direct stroke, not sure what the model is. Will look tomorrow.
Here's the MOD 8 wheel I did not long ago. I know...wrong tail. It's ok.
