My gues would be that it was the best conclusion to hold the hub on, and be able to be removed if needed. Just a thought. Of course a longer key would be better if the keyway went all the way through the hub.

Ok. Just wondering. I have a bunch of that stuff in a box, but not sure what all is in there. If no one comes through, I maybe can if I have a few of them, and they measure up.

David, measure the inside Dia of the holes, and the outside spacing of the holes across the bracket. A replacement needs to not only span the length, but fill the hole.

I think it's a F/M worm gear. (WG) Not particularly rare, but interesting. If it is, I have a few of them.
