Tail holes

On our A602 tail arm where the spring hooks I see several holes I assume it's for some type of adjustment.
Probably a dumb question but I am learning more all the time from this forum and love all the knowledge passed down.

Talked to a very nice fellow at Aermotor the other day about our mill brake system.
He told me to let the mill run and if it wasn't on a pump and just free to add 20lbs to the pump rod and let it go.

Pump rods

I am going to install new wood pump rods, question is that I will have to make the rods in several pieces due to the length I will need to reach the pump. When splicing together can this be ridged? my dad say's he thought that there was a swivel between each one. Any information on what to do with ...
